Phillip (Phil) Joseph Nevin...married to wife Kristin...has 3 children: daughter Koral and sons Tyler and Kyle...participated in the 2000, 2001 and 2002 Padres Winter Caravans...started at third base for Team USA during the 1992 Olympics, batting .219 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI during the tournament...had 3 hits, including a homer, and 3 RBI in a 10-9 win over Chinese Tapei...won the 1992 Golden Spikes Award as the nation's top amateur baseball player after batting .402 with 22 home runs and 86 RBI for Cal State-Fullerton...was named MVP of the College World Series despite the fact the Titans lost the championship game...also honored as the third baseman on The Sporting News All-American Team...batted .439 (25-for-57) in post-season play during his Fullerton career, hitting safely in 15 of 16 games...additionally, lettered for 3 years as a place kicker on the Fullerton football team...on September 23, 1989, kicked a game-tying field goal as time expired, lifting the Titans to a 41-41 tie with San Diego State at then-Jack Murphy Stadium...the Aztecs were quarterbacked by Mark McGwire's younger brother Dan...Phil graduated from El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA, where he was a teammate of former Padre-teammate Bret Boone...was drafted by the Dodgers out of high school in the 3rd round in 1989, but chose to attend Cal State-Fullerton.
